Last spring I bought a doggie gate and it never left the box. I don't know if this would suit your purposes, but you're welcome to take a look at it. It's got a wood frame and lock bar that has notches in it to adjust width.
... a dusty baby gate in the basement or garage? If so, we'd like to borrow for about 12 days.

Trav's daughter and her sons are coming for Christmas. Since they come from the land without steps (i.e., Florida) there is great concern about the little one tumbling down three flights of stairs. And since there's always the chance that we'll got snowed/iced in, we'd like for the older to have something to play tapes.

My plan tonight is to leave work (ON TIME!) and go home and study all evening, because I'm behind - AGAIN! - and I've got homework due on Wednesday. So I'll try to remember to drop it off and you can decide whether it works for you or not. It actually may be too big for your doorway.
And when you return it, you can drink some of that Guinness (sp?) on the patio, if you so desire.
